“Kids typically moan and groan about having to see a tutor so when my daughter was excited to see Lisa each week, I knew that something magical was going on. Lisa has considerable patience blended with knowledge, expertise and creativity. She’s adept at giving students tools to help themselves—and equally adept at providing parents with resources to help their children. I have only one complaint about Lisa: She left Los Angeles!”

“As a colleague of Lisa May for the past five years, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing her compassion and dedication to each and every one of her students. Mrs. May not only encompasses the intensive knowledge and experience to help her students reach their maximum potential, but she also possesses the patience and empathy required to make each child feel unique and special. I am lucky to have worked and learned from such a genuine and inspiring educator.”

"While working alongside Lisa May at Working With Autism in Los Angeles, California, I couldn't help but notice what a diligent, passionate and creative individual she was with her special needs clients.  Even in stressful situations, she handled herself with grace and ease.  She was always very highly involved in program development and wasn't afraid to think outside the box to ensure her clients would be successful.  Her wonderful personality, intelligence and enthusiasm for her work make her a great asset to any family or school setting.  I feel grateful  to have had the opportunity to with her and am fortunate to have such an esteemed colleague in the field of education."

“I had the privilege of having Lisa student teach in my developmental kindergarten class. Lisa is a kind, conscientious teacher. She is everything you want a good teacher to be: knowledgeable, responsible, polite, caring and dependable. Lisa’s enthusiasm and positive attitude shone brightly from the start. Our class had many students with special needs, ranging from severe speech & language delays to autism and severe emotional problems. She dealt with all students’ behavior with calm, firm, respectful discipline, and demonstrated the ability to see the motivation behind student behavior. She works with students to help them express their feelings in appropriate ways and develop appropriate work habits so they learn to be model students who experience success. Best of all, Lisa respects primary students for the wiggly, wonderful little people they are, and works to help them grow and learn without stifling their spirits.”

“We have known Lisa since 2007 when our daughter, Emma, started kindergarten and joined the After School Program at the YMCA Brentwood Youth House. Our family immediately fell in love with her kindness, bubbly personality and lovely smile. After leaving the Youth House to begin graduate school, Lisa went on to become our kids’ favorite babysitter.  We have no relatives in California-our families live on opposite coasts and different continents, so Lisa naturally became more like family than ‘just’ a babysitter to our children. The kids were always excited to see her! On a weekly basis, she would bring along a bag full of fun and educational games, or something crafty for the kids to do, she helped with homework, and sometimes even invited the kids over for some cooking/baking fun at her house. Lisa is compassionate, patient, resourceful, and able to remain calm and firm when needed. We have great respect and admiration for what she is able to accomplish in her work and our whole family misses her dearly! Come back, Lisa!”
